Operation Details
'Jackpot' (ii) was the Allied overall designation of air sweeps over German-occupied northern France by tactical air units (15 April/September 1944).
,The object of these sweeps was to lure German fighters into the air for destruction by the larger numbers of Allied aircraft, and thereby degrade the capabilities of the German fighter defences before the commitment of 'Overlord', and the first 'Jackpot' (ii) undertaking was flown in 15 April 1944 by aircraft of Major General William E. Kepner’s VIII Fighter Command of Lieutenant General James H. Doolittle’s US 8th AAF.
